Spherical roller bearings are self-aligning — they absorb housing misalignment and shaft deflection of a few degrees without raising raceway stress. That is why they work in screens, crushers, industrial fans and paper machines, where the frame flexes and the shaft is long.

They carry very high radial loads and substantial axial loads in both directions. Tapered bore versions (K) mount on an adapter sleeve, which allows fitting on a plain shaft and adjusting clearance during assembly.

What to look at when selecting

Check whether the assembly really needs self-alignment — with a rigid housing a cylindrical or ball bearing is cheaper.
A tapered bore with an adapter sleeve simplifies mounting on a long shaft without shoulders.
When mounting on a sleeve choose C3 clearance: drawing the bearing up reduces the operating clearance.
Sealed versions save a lubrication system in dusty environments.
